About

The Origin of Nine Pines began over 20 years ago, when Craig’s first taste of vegetable gardening began. Years later the journey evolved from a small 10’x16’ plot in his parent’s backyard to nearly 3000sq/ft of gardens in the backyard of his first house. It was here that Craig got his first 2 beehives, and after a very successful year he was hooked. After several years of “urban” beekeeping, gardening, and meeting his life partner; the current property that Nine Pines calls home became available.

Nine Pines Homestead, run by Craig Burek and his wife Danielle Ball, sits on nearly 11 acres of old farmland, with no record of soil management for over 25 years. Our Process

At Nine Pines Homestead, we believe in working with nature and wildlife to grow our products as naturally as possible.
Chemical Free
We avoid spraying chemicals and pesticides at all costs. Instead we use permaculture methods to reduce and manage pest infestation.
Ecological Restoration
Through the digging of 2 ponds and planting of thousands of native plants and trees; we have started to restore some of our farmland back to natural habitat.
Ducks
We give our ducks free range of our orchards and gardens to help with insect control. grubs, slugs, snails, flies and Japanese beetles are some of their favourites.
Targeted Traps
Species specific insect traps placed where a problem has started and is much less damaging than spraying everything for a problem that doesn't exist yet.
